While cancer treatment has evolved over the years, the care provided can sometimes cause unpleasant side effects. Not to mention, the prognosis of some cancers is grim, especially cervical and lung cancer once they spread. The emotions entailed in a diagnosis are also difficult for the patient to contend with. However, you can make a difference in the lives of these individuals even if you’re not a doctor or scientist. Today, Grace Essential Oils will show you how.
Become an Oncology Nurse
Search for reputable nursing programs in your area. Compare your options by tuition costs, reputation, and student-to-professor ratio. Once you finish your nursing education, to become an oncology nurse, you can apply to work in the oncology department of a hospital or cancer clinic and start making a difference right away!
Teach Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice using thin needles applied to specific parts of a person’s body to trigger nerve stimulation and muscle response. In Chinese medicine, this practice is thought to control the flow of qi, which in Chinese culture is the life force.
Some research suggests acupuncture can help combat symptoms of cancer as well as the side effects of the medications given, including nausea. To become an acupuncturist, you need to complete a minimum of a master’s degree.
Offer Yoga Instruction
Yoga can help relieve some of the stress of fighting cancer. It may also decrease cancer-related fatigue and improve a cancer sufferer’s quality of life. Fortunately, it only takes 200 hours of training to become a yoga instructor, though it could help if you already practice yoga personally. Once you finish your training, you can open a studio and help those with cancer and various other conditions.
Start a Nonprofit Organization for Cancer
Open a nonprofit organization dedicated to those with cancer. You could raise funds to donate to cancer research organizations or give to local residents who are struggling financially due to a cancer diagnosis.
When you begin, establish your organization as a nonprofit corporation through the Secretary of State to simplify the grant application process and acquire public funding more easily.
Once you begin your nonprofit corporation, set bylaws. Specifically, focus on how the corporation will be governed and operated. You’ll need to determine the frequency of board meetings and the voting process. It helps to establish rules concerning conflicts of interest as well.
Find Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer at a local cancer organization. Ask what they could use your help with. If you’ve been a caregiver for someone with cancer or are a survivor, consider establishing a support group. You can also donate your blood, plasma, or hair to help those in need.
Last but not least, if you know someone personally who suffers from this disease, help them in any way you can. For instance, bring them hot meals or offer to run errands for them.
You Can Make a Difference
Your time can mean the world to those battling cancer, whether you help someone you know or take time to offer services to those in need. Use the above guide for ideas about how you can help those dealing with cancer near you.
